Crunch Time

Journal Entry: Thu Jun 12, 2008, 12:25 AM
I have a little over 2 monthes to finish the new DS game I'm working on. Which means, my life is filled with liberal amounts of crunch. As a part of my love of making games sickness, I strangely enjoy the unending hours as it takes shape. The scope of the project is a bit crazy considering the team size, but easy jobs (and freetime apprently) bore me. Cross your fingers and we'll see if I can get something up on the Nintendo Channel.

Other than coding like crazy, I'm pushing forward with my other designs. I need to fix that flash game I mentioned before. It makes little sense, and my love of Alpha animation kills the framerate. Staredown refuses to be posted until I fix 3 issues. I thought I had some screenshots around here...

Oh, my talk over at Drexel went great! We had a great time talking about the state of the industry, the necessity of the inovators from experimental design, and even game critiques. After honestly tearing apart the student games, I gave the same treatment to my first DS game. No one was safe BWAHAHahahahaha!

Guitar lessons are going very well! I'm starting to be able to transtion between chords and am starting to get comfortable. It's really nice to be playing music again. It feels like hanging out with an old friend. The other night I must have played for about 2 hours!

I'm not sure what I'm going to do about conventions this year. It's starting to take a lot more forethought and planning to get a table in the Artist Alley these days. It doesn't seem as laid back as it used to be. I really like going and seeing you guys so I guess I'll have to figure something out. Any requests?

Meanwhile, I'm still taking commissions. Note me if you'd like anything. Also, if you're my 30k hit, I'll draw something for you. So... erm yeah.

Quick Update

Journal Entry: Sun Apr 27, 2008, 11:53 AM
Things have been going okay so far. My TF2 Map Staredown is pretty complete. If you'd like to check it out, send a friend request to my steamID ( Codax or CodaxD AT hotmail.com ) I'm not sure if DA is the right spot to put it, but I'll prolly throw up some screen shots later this week.

Also, I'm working on a new Flash Game! Right now it's in the concept stages, but if it turns out fun I'll post it here. I need to replace that Spooky Fish Hunter game anyway.

For a strange turn of events, the College I graduated from has called me back to do a talk about experimental gaming as well as critique some student games... freaky. I still remember the days when they refused me housing and shook their fist at me when I demanded to be entered into full classes because they were necessary to my major. Its a 3 hour class though... hopefull I will be interesting enough to full up that much time... no sweat.... right? right?!?!?

Oh as before I forget, I've started to learn the Guitar! Yesterday was my second lesson it's going great. By next Saturday I have to learn the intro to American Idiot by GreenDay. Watch out David Grohl, today it's Billy Joe, tomorrow it could be you hahahhaaha... as if.

Wanna Commission?

Journal Entry: Sat Apr 12, 2008, 8:39 PM
Hi,

As usual the whole video game thing is keeping me crazy... busy. Well more crazy than anything else. Sadly though, my big plans to do Commissions at Tekkoshocon this weekend totally fell through! I can't make it *cries*. But I still have the time blocked for doing commissions so I've decided to take some orders online. What this means is, right now you get the same deal as if you were at the con! Alison, the amazing artist whose line art I frequently color will be doing the drawing and inking, and I'll be on colors in either digital or traditional media. Here's how it works

Note me what you would like. We will draw pretty much anything: Original Characters, Anime Portraits, you with your favorite anime character, crazy cross over pics... a custom made bishonen perhaps? Traditional media pics are created on 9x12 Bristol and Digital pics are Laser Transfered onto 12x18 archive grade photo paper.

Pay via paypal by Saturday and there is a good chance (depending on what it is) you'll have it by Sunday or Monday. Here's the price list

$20 Single Character Inked (+$20 Each additional Character)
+$20 Water color marker coloring
Examples: [link] [link] [link]

Digital Media Pics start at $50 depending on complexity. Note me what you want and I'll tell you how much it costs. Addtional posters are $10 each.

And as always Domestic Shipping is FREE!!!

Commission List

2) MTG Swimsuits - Coloring

A bad habit

Journal Entry: Thu Oct 18, 2007, 6:08 AM
Wow it's been a few months since my last entry, and quite frankly I'm totally getting into a bad habit over here. I've just finished another Nintendo DS Game!so I finally have the smallest amount of time to write a journal entry. I have to admit, I really thought would be easier than this, but the Video Game Industry is really harrowing. Now before anyone breaks out a big can of "I told you so", I've been preparing my whole life to do this. I've read every developer interview I could get my hands on and heard their horror stories. They were scary, but it all seemed to be experiences that could be learned from and overcome... to some extent I still believe that. Yet as I was a stressed out mess until just recently I have not figured out that sweet spot yet.

One thing I did differently this time that I think helped was to make sure to occassionaly take some weekends to do things that I've never done before. Alison and I saved up $$ and threw a huge party (120 people!), then went to Cancun(yes the water really is that blue). We got lost in Cancun City and got an idea of real Mexican life. We did an Anime con (AMA), went to the Jersey Shore on a lark, and even saw Mindless Self Indulgence! Also in this time I've been designing new games and hopefully it won't be too long before you see some actual assets materialize.

Unfortunately, while it seems like I may have all the time in the world to relax, I spent most of my days, nights, and midnights programming. The irony being that the game's theme is "Relax". Hopefully the soundtrack and pace of the game bring some people some joy and relaxation. If you're at Nekocon in a few weeks, stop by our table in the Artist's Alley to see the game. Or if you can't wait, I believe it's on sale at GameStop or Amazon. Overall I'm very happy with the way this one turned out, and I was only burned out for about 4-5 weeks. I wanna thank all those people who sent me encouraging notes and comments over the past few monthes. I read every comment and hold every fave in my heart. Thank you so much for all your support, I hope you enjoy the things to come!

We're totally celebrating the fact that THE VIDEO GAME SHIPPED this week! That's right it's finaly out in stores! I can't wait to go out and get a snap shot of me with the retail box.

Oh and check out 's page. She's got some cool content and even a comic about the game! I'm definatly going to be keeping watch to see the next pages and if there are any desktops. OMG, I'm too sleepy to be this excited, but I'm pretty pumped! I've gotta finish packing up for the CON, soo...
